Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Thursday to present a roadmap for the state’s transformation into a hub of sporting excellence. During the meeting, Dhami sought central support for building high-level sports facilities and providing international-standard training opportunities for Uttarakhand’s athletes.
Acknowledging National Games Success

Dhami expressed gratitude to the Centre for its assistance in successfully hosting the 38th National Games, which, he said, had given Uttarakhand a new identity as a “sports land.” He stressed that the event marked a turning point in showcasing Uttarakhand’s potential to host mega sporting competitions.
Major Proposals for Sports Development
The Chief Minister presented several proposals for approval, including:

A high-level sports facility at Deenapani, Almora.

Operationalisation of an ice-skating rink at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun.

Upgradation of the Adventure Training Centre at New Tehri.

Indoor artificial rock climbing facilities at the Women’s Sports College, Champawat.

Construction of multi-purpose sports halls in 95 development blocks across the state.
Sports University Initiative
Dhami also highlighted the establishment of Uttarakhand’s first Sports University, which will not only train athletes but also provide academic courses in sports sciences. He requested financial and technical support from the Centre to shape the university into a leading national institution.

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya praised the state government’s initiatives and assured all possible support from the Centre, reinforcing the commitment to nurture Uttarakhand’s sporting ambitions.
